Yuting Zhang

I am a Professor at the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research in the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne, and founding director of the Health Analytics, Leadership & Economics (HALE) Hub. I hold a PhD in health policy (economics concentration) and MS in health policy & management, both from Harvard University.

I develop and evaluate novel strategies to improve health insurance design, health system productivity, and population health, using advanced economic modelling and quantitative analysis of large datasets to study the impact of health policy and individual choices.

My research has been published in leading medicine, health policy, and economics journals — including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA/Lancet and their network journals, Health Affairs, Health Economics, and the Journal of Health Economics — and has directly informed health policy in Australia, the United States, and internationally. My work has been covered by media outlets including the Australian Broadcasting Corporation news, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and US National Public Radio.

I was an ARC Future Fellow and Co-Chair of the Arrow Award Committee of the International Health Economics Association — the field’s highest recognition for the best paper in health economics — and serve as editor or on the editorial boards of many international journals.
